The planet Earth is a lot like any mother. The earth is one thing we will always love. It cares for us. It will try to do anything to give us everything our heart desires. It can shape us into great human beings. We grow very close to our Earth. We make it cry and we make it smile. We have fought with the earth many times and with all the years it has cared for us, the earth just gets weaker and weaker. We have stressed our Earth to the point where her wrinkles are getting noticed. We must practice sustainable living.
Sustainability is related to keeping your mother happy such as; cooking a wonderful meal after a great day of shopping and serving her in bed while your brother gives her a foot massage. We need to pamper our earth because it is getting old and tired. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency properly defines sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Our children’s future depends on us to keep the world a place for healthy living.
Automobiles are a leading problem in the quest for the world to practice sustainability. The emission of a car causes damages to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide trap energy from the sun which raises temperatures. 30% of carbon dioxide and 76% of carbon monoxide in the air is released by motor vehicles. Cars are not only a pollutant to the air but to the water too. Runoff lubricants, coolants, and gas deposits are all released into the water. Cars are one of the causes of global warming, air pollution, and the depletion of the ozone layer.
As a new driver, I am becoming more aware of what cars are doing our Earth. Transportation is a key element to daily life and almost everyone in America uses a car to get around. As a resolution researchers have found that if tires are made of wood, they become more eco-friendly. This new product is called microcrystalline cellulose. It is made easily out of any plant fibers and replaces the silica in the rubber tires. This new find could reduce the energy used to make the tire, cut down on costs, and resist the build up of heat. This product is reoportedly just as good as the silica used in original tires and has a higher fuel efficiency in heat. This may be a small step to help the environment but every step counts to make the planet a healthier place.

ReplyDeleteI like the creative analogy of earth to mother. You've really worked it out nicely and it makes great sense.However, for APES I'd like to see you stick to basic information. When you take the APES test, the readers of your essays will not want any extraneous information.
We will discuss greenhouse gases in great detail this year! I'm glad you focused on that issue. The info. on tree tires was interesting but it didn't seem to be a solution to greenhouse gases--can you make the connection (if there is one) stronger?
I do not want to see essays from 123helpme. com as a research site. Even though they sited their sources, I want you to do the research. I also noticed that there sources were from the late 1990's --too old to be valid for APES.
