One thing that we talked about that really hit me, was the amount of plastic bottles we use on a daily bases. This picture shows the amount of bottles that are used every FIVE minutes. This is a huge amount that is not absolutely needed. If people switched to re-usable (such as aluminum) bottles, this would cut down on the amount of plastic we use. Most people just end up throwing away the plastic instead of recycling them, because recycling takes a little more work and they are lazy.

I chose this photo to represent poverty and the health of adults and children in not-so-fortunate countries. Yes everyone knows that there is a lot of poverty, but many people don't know how easy it is to help and fix. It's frustrating now to know that we can help a great deal. Many diseases these kinds and adults get that kill them are from drinking water. It's really dirty and they do not have the technology to clean it. If we helped install water purifiers, this would greatly increase the health rate. Also, we could provide mosquito nets which really don't cost like anything. This would help them avoid being bitten by mosquitos and getting a disease such as malaria. The nets would be around their beds or the spaces they live in.

I never new what an Ecological Footprint was until APES. The Ecological Footprint of someone is a calculation that estimates the area of Earth's productive land and water required to supply the resources that an individual or group demands, as well as to absorb the wastes that the individual or group produces. When we evaluated our own footprint, mine was extremely high. I haven't been doing all that I can to stay green. This class helped me to realize that the small things add up and really count. I try to improve how I live everyday. I do things like always turn off the T.V. when I leave the room, turn the lights off when i leave the room, don't leave the water running while brushing my teeth, etc.
